Forskare varnar för fluor
Det omdiskuterade ämnet fluor är på tapeten igen. Denna gång är det forskare som visar på sambandet mellan tolv olika kemikalier – bland annat fluor – och antalet barn som får diagnoser som autism, dyslexi och ADHD.
I den ansedda medicintidskriften Lancet Neurology, skriver forskarna Philippe Grandjean och Philip Landrigan, att antalet kemikalier där det finns starka bevis för att de är farliga för barnens hjärnutveckling har dubblerats de senaste sju åren, från sex till tolv. Barnen får i sig och påverkas av ämnena genom bland annat dricksvatten, tandkräm, bekämpningsmedel, tvättmedel och flamskyddsmedel, rapporterarExpressen.

Fluor har i flera studier tidigare kopplats samman med skador på nervsystemet, minskat IQ och inlärningsproblem. Dess eventuella risker diskuteras ständigt och en del menar att det bör betraktas som ett farlig gift. Den viktigaste funktionen hos fluor är att öka bendensiteten och därigenom förhindra hål i tänderna. Fluor stärker också tandemaljen vid direktkontakt och skyddar därigenom tänderna mot anfall av bakterier och syror. Man har trott att skelettet stärks av fluor men flera studier visar att skelettet på lång sikt blir skörare. Förutom att de flesta forskare tror att fluor stärker benstommen, anser man också att fluor minskar utsöndringen av kalcium och kan motverka hörselförlust genom att stärka innerörat. Det är inte klarlagt att fluor stärker benstommen trots att det kan öka bendensiteten.
Mycket skadligt vid toxiska doser
Det finns även motsägelsefulla studier rörande sambandet mellan fluorbrist och ökad förekomst av hjärtsjukdomar. Fluor är ett mycket skadligt ämne vid toxiska doser. Intag genom kosten, fluorerat vatten, teflonstekpanna/-kastrull samt tandkräm och munvatten kan tillsammans ge en långsiktig förgiftning, skriver Näringsterapeuten Peter Wilhelmson iNäringsmedicinska Uppslagsboken. Det finns fluorfria tandkrämer för den som vill undvika ämnet.
